Lemai Wedge, Serengeti National Park and Ndutu, Ngorngoro Conservation area, Tanzania - September/October 2024
This trip was designed to coincide with the Wildebeest Migration. We were hoping to see Wildebeest crossing the Mara River in Tanzania - an activity that happens during July to October, but there are no guarantees that it will be seen doing a short safari stay. We stayed for 10 nights at Serian's Serengeti Lamai camp and we struck very lucky - seeing crossings on every day of our visit, over 20 crossings in total! Not for the faint-hearted, river crossing can be quite distressing with wildebeest calves and mothers getting separated, broken limbs and, of course, crocodile attacks. For the second part of our Tanzania adventure we stayed for 7 nights at Ndutu Safari Lodge, just outside the Serengeti, to see it in the non-migration period - a time which is much tougher for the predators. Regrettably, a few days before we arrived, the rangers had started a "controlled" grass fire that rapidly became out of control and burned hundreds of square kilometres. In due time the grass will recover and be excellent for grazing, but such a recent fire severely restricted what we could see during our stay.
My thanks to Safari Consultants
for doing another fantastic job in organising everything on the trip.
