My third visit to see Pumas in Chile was by far the most successful. We saw over 20 different pumas over the 6 days I spent driving and walking on a private ranch ("Estancia"). The enterprising owners have realised that Puma watching is far more rewarding than traditional sheep farming, and so they now protect the Pumas which are historically seen by sheep ranches as a pest. The ecosystem is surprisingly simple. There is one main prey animal the Guanaco (the Llama is it's domesticated cousin), and one main predator, the Puma. All photography is done whilst out of the vehicles hiking to the best locations. I would like to thank Nick Garbutt
for guiding such an excellent tour and tour operators Wildlife Worldwide
for organising everything.
